Wedding Dresses from China

Ok so I know you can get really cheap wedding dresses from ebay and other websites that are made in China really cheaply and are copies of designer wedding dresses. I also know the quality is variable - OH's cousin's dress was well...it turned up a day before the wedding, didn't fit properly and was a weird yellow-y colour when it was supposed to be white....

Anyway I have seen a Priscilla of Boston wedding dress that I have fallen in love with. Problem is, it's about $4,700 to buy in the US (you can't get it in the UK). There is no way I am spending that on a dress. However I have found copies of it for about $280 with free shipping from some of these chinese websites.

The real question is: is it worth it to order this dream dress of mine in the hope that it is amazing, or should I just try and find something equally as good over here?

  • Have you tried this dress on? If not then I would say it is a good idea to go and try a few on...I found that what I thought I liked looked awful! I bought a dress from China off Ebay as a kind of experiment...didn't have very high hopes just thought if it happened to look good it would be a bargain....it is awful, not impressed at all....will sell on as fancy dress! Personally I have found that trying them on and going for something I know I really love 'in the flesh' is the way to go. Plus buying a knock off is really not fair on the original designer.

That is far too much to pay for a replica, they will sell on the Chinese market for around $35.

TBH, the experience that your OH's cousin had would be enough to put me off if it was someone I knew. I think that dresses are expensive, but they're that expensive because you're buying from a designer with a good reputation for quality. I wouldnt skimp, but like another poster said earlier, shop around and you might find something else that you like.
