baking cake in glass?

hello ladies and gents

I hope one of you can help me....

I'd like to bake a cake, but I only have a fairy cake tin thing (with twelve cake holes (?!) !!). I have a nice small glass casserole dish though and was wondering if I could bake a cake in this?! Its not too deep.

thanks! :)

  • i used a glass dish yesterday actually - to bake a sponge cake - i just greased it and lined it with greaseproof paper - and it worked a treat - so i'd say yes - glass will do ;)

I have seen a lot of people (online) making cupcakes in glass jars and digging into their big lovely looking solo portion. I'd say go for it although I have not tried to bake in glass eeeek

oven proof glass is fine! you can bake cakes in pyrex dishes and they give a good (if rather oddly shaped) result.

Yep, you definitely can - works a treat in a pinch. I do definitely prefer baking with my tins though.

Good thing that you said it's not too deep though - the last cake I baked for someone, she gave me a glass bowl to bake it in (she wanted it to be a particular shape) and it took and absolute age to bake :wall: :rotfl:

Seconded. I've found my le creuset omelette pan makes a lovely apple pie for four! :T
