Mortgage Exit Fees discussion

Last year I requested a Redemption Statement from Nat.West.Bank, which I duly recieved, the total amount due included a sealing fee of £225, however we had not been charged any early repayment charges despite the fact that the mortgage is a pension mortgage and was not due for redemption until the year 2017. Unfortunately we found at the time that we were not in a position to redeem, this situation has now changed and we are now ready :j .
My worry - If I request that the sealing fee be the one that I was originally quoted will they then decide to charge early redemption fees instead?
How do I word my request nicely0 -
MarkyMarkD wrote:AJK, your post is self-contradictory. The early repayment charge is NOT an MEAF and therefore there's no chance of successfully reclaiming it. As AHAR posted in earlier reply to Polly, it was probably an "over-hanging" early repayment charge which continued after the fixed rate ended.
MarkyMark,
I did NOT say early repayment Charge was an MEAF. I suggested poster was still tied in to mortgage and that claim would be unsuccessful. I also suggested to apply for the MEAF fee.

MarkyMarkD wrote:They don't have to. You chose a mortgage with a £499 fee and you have to pay it. End of story.
I don't know how you judge that it's a rip-off. It's not. It's just an up-front fee to enable them to offer you a cheaper mortgage rate.

Im sure many people would agree it is a rip off. With the billions profit the banks are making there is no need to make another charge on top of the return they get on a mortgage product. Its just GREED. The banks have been greedy and unfair and im glad to see they are repaying many charges back to their customers.

Hi. This is the first time I have used the forum so please make allowances!!!
I have read all the articles and think I can claim but I'm not sure who to claim from. My mortgage started with Mortgage Trust who then launched Britannic Money and then my statements came from them.
After this The Paragon Group acquired the entire share capital of Britannic and has rebranded as Mortgage Trust!
When I repaid my mortgage it was Britannic Money.
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
I am just wondering if anyone knows if I can claim back anything from Alliance and Leicester.
I paid £295 in Nov 2005 as a product switch fee (this was already reduced as they tried to charge me £395 but I complained) - surely this amount was over the top aswell - is this worth trying to get refunded?
THanks for any advice.:eek:0 -
Hi guys /girls
I have just rang the Halifax after reading the articles in the forum etc. I moved my mortgage in Sept last year after 5 ys + with them to the HSBC, and without any problem they offered me £100. I was then told that I may get further calls asking for me to agree full and final settlement, which means to me that they can offer me more. Is that right? Does the amount of my mortgage count?
Anyhelp would be appreciated.:beer:0 -

Hi Boris
Could I politely ask you to please have a look at some of the other posts on this thread? You'll see that product switch fees are not part of this issue.
Basically, it's the price for the product you pay, you can choose to take the product or not, so you don't have a case for a refund. To be honest, you did well to get £100 off.Everyone needs something to believe in.
