If those moaning want the chance to pay £100,000 in Stamp Duty ... be my guest, but - before you do - you will need the intelligence to make the £Millions in the first place - this would involve getting off ones backside and doing something other than moaning on a BBS.

It would probably involve doing something other than boasting and gloating on a BBS too.

  • 5% does appear to be excessive for a reoccurring tax that is already covered every year by council rates

    Just like Tamara Ecclestone.
  • The trickle effect of the rich snapping up UK property (esp in London) is considered essential maintaining and boosting the value of our housing stock. For this reason, the government is unlikely to intervene.

Is it not also true that wealthy foreign buyers of UK property are also being let off the hook with capital gains tax? Again, this is encouraging a steady yet substantial flow of money into UK property, increasing London prices beyond peak and helping to put a floor under values elsewhere.

  • The overseas property company vehicle is only just taking off in the UK at the moment. The last one I heard of being setup cost £2700 if I remember correctly. Fact is that the law is written one way and isn't being broken, so till the law does get changed I can see more and more people owning nicer homes because they can use this to help afford them.
  • A university friend of mine [who's loaded, think he spent over £1.5m on his house] bought about three years ago usnig a scheme a bit like this and the taxman has only just contacted him. He reckons he's going to have to pay up plus interest.
    FACT.
  • Try paying 50p in the pound on income tax and seeing !!!! all in return other than baby generators and people playing on the sick. I say they are entitled to free stamp duty when you bear in mind the strongest 20% are holding up the weakest 80% let the weak rot or china will use our grand children as slaves.

Sibley I have quite enough of Nollags 18 sock puppets on another thread. Just post as yourself and you will get more respect.

The reason it is wrong is we have a deficit and debt. We are currently laying government workers including serving soldiers who are going to have a terrible Christmas.

The simple thing if you want to live in this country you pay the taxes or get out.

Why should foreign millionaires/billionaires not pay stamp duty, hide their wealth in property and price out the locals?

It'll be non of them Chelsea properties, apparently you can rent them for £300 per month.
