Hi guys and gals. Following on from the article about the £5 mp3 player, I thought I'd add my own two pennies.
If you are the lucky owner of a 1gig SD card then you can actually save a bunch of notes on an mp3 player by purchasing the mp3 card reader from Scan here.
It has no internal memory, no flashy lights, no display and no frills, but stick an SD card full of your fave mp3's in it and it will play like there's no tomorrow.
Not bad for the price and good quality. If you don't own an SD card you can pick up a 1GB one for around a tenner nowadays so still a great bargain to be had at around.
To put this in perspective, a 4GB ipod is around £80. The card reader with 4 1GB cards would be about £60. A small saving, but a saving nonetheless.

A near identical one can also be had for about eight quid from LEDShoppe here with free P+P. Though it might take longer to arrive - my stuff generally takes up around a week - they do have free P+P and if you subscribe to the newsletter you get a free keyring LED with each item you order.0

The one on Ebuyer says it supports SD cards up to 512M ( http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/110663 )
I have one that supports cards up to 1M (unnamed brand purchased from Boots), so they do not all appear to be quite identical.

I've seen some Sandisk Cruzer Companion thingys on eBay which go for quite low prices.
These take Sandisk Cruzer USB sticks (kinda obvious really!!!), so make a very cheap MP3/WMA player if you can score one for a low bid!
They seem to retail for about £60 (which is a lot!!)British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
