Am I liable to pay?

I have received a letter from George Walker Recoveries chasing me for a nursery bill of £554 in my eyes I do not think I should I should pay this. I removed my child from the nursery in April after the failed to give me any notice of public holidays that they would be taking (but I still had to pay for the days they were shut) I was informed on the Friday that the nursery would be closed the following Monday and Tuesday. I had to pay someone £60 to look after my child. I told them she would not be returning as she would go to a more reliable nursery. They proceeded to call my mother and threaten action of social workers as my child was absent (although I had told them I was removing her). I called them to remind them she wouldn't be back and was told that I needed to give them a months notice so I told them once they had refunded me for the days they were shut and I was still charged I was told this was policy and was in my handbook and after checking it wasn't I was then told a new one was issued with the new information and I must have it or I have lost it (news to me). I was also owed monies or extra days from previous months from being overcharged. As I wasn't speaking to the manager I was told they couldn't do anything as she didn't have the authority to oversee that request and the manager wasn't around. I asked her to get the manager to call me to sort the outstanding debt out to find out the real amount as they were asking for was £497 in May she never called and that was the last I heard. It is now the end of November and I have got this letter asking for £554.00. Has anyone heard of this company? I can't find much on the internet about them and should I pay its states on the letter that the nursery has made several attempts to contact me which they haven't.

The most common mistake people make is thinking that indignance is a reason for breaking contracts. There are ways to go about things. If you have to give month's notice by contract then you are banged to rights, if not then fight. Doesn't matter the whys and wherefores and who said what when and what happened on a particular day, what does the agreement state?0

This was stated in the handbook and that is what the fees are but I told them to alter it as I had been overcharged in the past then I would pay but they never got back to me as I think they were embarrassed at being found out for overcharging me.0

If you think you do genuinely owe them some of that money, I would pay that & dispute the rest, putting everything in writing & explaining your reasons. You could also ask them to give you a full breakdown of what they are asking for & why.
