Quality mens shoes

Are high quality mens shoes worth the premium?
Never had a proper pair of shoes before but been looking at a few recently.
Been looking at the lower end of the range of Barkers and Loake though these are still considerably over £100 in some cases double.
Will they really last a lifetime?
If anybody has any links to info or shopping links that would help. Struggling on the high street and online is a minefield.

I have bought Loakes at around £150 in the past and found they lasted no longer and were no more comfortable than any other shoes I have owned.
The best buys for me were a pair of loafers from Lidl for about £10 and a more formal pair from Asda at around the same price. Very comfortable and still going strong after 5+ years.0 -
Church's shoes will last a lifetime - but the cost just to re-sole is more than a lot of people would spend on a new pair. I think part of this depends on the individual. My mother always used to say my brother was "hard" on his shoes but I wasn't.
I have a a pair from Charles Tyrwhitt which are a number of years old and still in good shape - though I do keep my shoes in shoe-trees. They quite often have sales and have a reasonabe returns policy.
As for comfort, I find the Footglove range from M&S very comfoirtable and Clarks Airwear (Airflex?) but you couldn't call them dressy shoes.
I just visited the site for you to get the link and they seem like they have changed all their range since I bought. They were all prtetty "classic" styles before but there's all sorts now
