where do you spend your clubcard points?

reading the thread below, i'm clearly behind most of you guys in gathering clubcard points, but still, i have around £120 saved up, meaning that i can get £480 worth of deals. the thing is, though, that i'm not sure where to spend them.

mfi seems to be a popular option, but i've never shopped there and don't really have plans to do so in the future. most of the "days out" options are pretty useless because we don't have kids. so i've been looking at the travel deals, but i'm not sure if they're good value for money.

for example, i could get 29,000 ba air miles. we fly with ba at least a couple times a year, so at least i know that we'd use those. but 29,000 miles doesn't get you very far. you need almost twice that to get a flight to the states. so it seems like a lousy deal.

the other travel option i was looking at is eurostar tickets. every £25 worth of vouchers gets a return train ticket to paris. that doesn't sound bad, but i'm a bit turned off by the strict conditions of travel, including having to book at least a month in advance.

the other deal i was considering is the open university courses. i already have a masters, but i'm sure that i can find a ton of interesting courses to take for the fun of it.

i don't want to waste the vouchers, so any advice would be most appreciated.

I saved mine up and bought my OH's and part of my wedding ring from Goldsmiths - we now wear permenant reminders of Mr T ;)

We were going to spend them on a couple of nights in a hotel at the start of our honeymoon but decided it was too restrictive and we got a good deal from the hotel direct so spent the vouchers on the rings instead.

Doubt I'll be able to spend the next lot on jewellery though ;)

I bought Bedroom furniture for myself from MFI and a bed from MFI for my son. Also bought a magazine subscription as a B'day prezzie.
    Now I'm saving for a Honeymoon :D
Have you looked on Tesco's website at the different 'Deals'?

I never really get that many clubcard vouchers - only £7-10 a quarter, so generally I trade them either for thorpe park tickets (even though I'm a grown up) or for bella italia vouchers - a free evening out's always good.

Might look into the whole OU thing though, there are a couple of courses on there I'd very much like to have a go at. (I'd need to make a bit more effort getting my petrol from Tesco though I think :))

i have, so i know in general what the options are, but it seems that some of the deals are a better deal than others.

for example, spending £200 worth of vouchers on £800 worth of furniture or jewelery is a good deal. on the other hand, spending the same amount of vouchers on ba miles, which will get you a return flight to new york, is a bad deal. that flight normally costs me £250-300, so i would be getting much less for my vouchers than if i went with the mfi or goldsmiths options.

does that make sense? i want to actually get 4x the value of my points in deals, and not lose out by going with a deal that in itself is overpriced.

Yes it does make sense - sorry was being a bit dense before - I know exactly what you mean, that's why I liked the jewellery offer because I knew I was getting a good deal (being able to use the vouchers at face value would have been pretty good but 4 x was fantastic).

I've had the same trouble with nectar points as I've got quite a stash of them and I've been checking the offers I'm tempted in and comparing them to what it would cost direct (e.g. the English Heritage membership as ours is up for renewal soon).

seems like most people are using them in mfi at the moment

  • We always save ours for a Leisure Break with Macdonald Hotels. We've always been very pleased with the standard of the hotels, although we wouldn't pay our hard earned cash for them...rather expensive! But a few days of Dinner, Bed & Breakfast at Mr. T's expense, goes down very well!
