Order of service words?

  • My sister had an order of service (I don't think it was called that though) for her civil ceremony - so the notes of what was going to happen and what music would be played, words to the readings, attendants' names in the back etc. They didn't have a welcome bit to their guests, just the note saying, 'Welcome from registrar', but I really love the idea of a little 'thank you for coming' note on the first page. If you want to do that then I say go for it.

Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")
Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")

We didn't want people to know the reading my son was doing, nor the music, which included a song my OH had written and recorded. And we had a reading kept secret from us...I'd asked a friend to choose something but not tell us what it was, but in the end he wrote something himself which was gorgeous and had the bonus of being lovely and personal :)

My son wrote his own speech too. the only people to know about it were him (he wrote it), me (i typed it up) and the vicar (to make sure it was suitable!).
We didn't include it in the order of service - just wrote "a reading by ......"
We also wrote our own vows but didn't include those in there either.
The vicar kindly laminated them for us and gifted them to us....

there wasn't a dry eye in the church after my son's reading....
Luckily, we had a voice recording of the day, so we can relive it as often as we like
