I put that I could do lots of things, but was best kept away from sharp knives. Oooh that gave me a good chuckle Gardenia. Wonder what they're thinking when they read the application :rotfl:I have tried the vanilla fudge. An absolute disaster. It looks like crumble mix now it's cooled. No clue what I have done although I know I was stirring constantly throughout so maybe it was that. Never mind. I am going to conquer it though, when I get more ingredients.
Probably a bit much stirring Fuddle (and maybe a bit too much whipping at the end - you whip it until it's not shiny anymore, but you might have kept on whipping after...). But on the bright side you just made a lovely batch of "Vanilla Fudge Ice Cream Topping".
You only need to worry about it burning until the sugar and butter is melted into the milk. After that, with just the odd stir, you don't need to worry about that, from there you just wait to get up to temperature.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Gailey we have had it happen many times, last time we had to put holes in ceiling to stop ceiling collapsing. We step told to leave it 24 hours to completely dry out, that was by an electrician we called out first time. After that we followed same advice, it seemed ok. We were told if still buzzing after 24 hours to call them out again. You will need keep mains lights switched off at fuse box though just to be safe.
Alternatively as you are renting can you call agent for electrician?0 -
Greyqueen,
I used to like tea, but just went right off it and drink coffee now. We can 'tolerate' each others differences surely Greyqueen? I mean, you're being a bit coffeeist and I may have to resort to posting lots of lovely pics of THE BEAN, ifyaknowwhadImean?
'Sall good in the hood.....here's a quick ode to the issue;
Tea.

Coffee.

Conversely today was quite horrendous, not been paid my mileage which means January will be frugal fun, although I'll still be expected to stump up the money to pay for my petrol to drive around the huge county I cover.
Also meeting tomorrow and its just sounding more and more ominous re the future, we're having our christmas team lunch after, I'm thinking I'd better bring tissues rather than the rolls I'm making.
Other than that, I'm counting the days until the weekend.
Great stuff Maryb, glad to be of help. Those Mermaid roasting pans are very ace, last forever too.
Umm, 'spose I'd better think about how/where/what to get folks for christmas with limited funds.
Next best very favourite thing at the mo is a pressure cooker. Did the Nigella Ham in coke in it the other night and it took an hour with careful monitoring but I have to sayand hubby and DD2 agree it's the best one I've ever made.
Loving the pressure cooker, anyone else got one?DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

Evening all. I hope you are all looking forward to at least a couple of days of completely different routine, ie. one you only follow once a year. For me now the children are flown I laze in bed for a while, OH visits his daughter and her teenage family and they live quite locally. I am known to exercise a hoover on Christmas Day (never have time much in daylight otherwise) and put together a quick roast of turkey breast, normal veg with a couple of trimmings. This year the chipolatas and bacon pieces were half price or less, so we are doing without the stuffing balls. Cheese and bics maybe (pudding is off this year) and a glass of port. Finito. Leftovers on Boxing Day, work the next.
I feel really touched by the posts about job insecurity. I felt my job would go several years ago now and I am amazed I am still here just about coping in my work. How would you feel to be the one to be giving out the bad news if redundancies or severely shortened hours was afoot in your organisation? Would you give the news prior to Christmas to stop people overspending (in terms of their new status) or would you leave it until the new year and let them down after they had had their fun? Me - I would rather know at the first available opportunity, but I am not quite sure what I would do if I was the management member who had to dole out the truth at this time of year. I don't feel there's ever a 'right' time to announce such news, I do believe that asap is the best way. Thankfully our manager pushed for us to be told pretty much immediately, however details have been sketchy to say the least and it's this that has caused the distress and endless speculation. Hopefully tomorrow things in my situation will be clearer, as will my colleagues.
I'd like to think we are all supporting each other through the process, including our manager who is also going to lose his job.:(
Basically I think sooner rather than later is the better option overall because there's a time limit and only so many paypackets between then and now.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

I feel I have to pass comment on the great Tea Coffee Divide.
I like both.
I find tea very soothing and a decent cup of coffee makes me happy too. Neither alone is enough, because I sometimes need more hot drinks than I could drink coffee wise and you can't irish up tea or caramel it up or put whipped cream on it.
Both are also good iced.
I suggest those who cannot reconcile their tea coffee differences, stick to wine or spirits to avoid disagreements and promote harmony.
And GQ, I'll overlook your blasphemy about coffee and walnut cake. Even my hubby, who can't stand coffee, will wolf that down.
All that being said I just had a banana smoothie with ice cream for brekkie and I believe I'll follow it up with a coffee.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Just de-lurking to say hope you recover Taurus & get out of hospital for Christmas
Lisa x0 -
Hello all. Been MIA for a few days, looking after my smallest grandson, come back here and it's taken me 2 days to catch up! Blimey everyone's feeling chatty at the moment.
Taurus - my thoughts are with you hun and positive vibes heading your way in the hope you will be well and home in time for Christmas.
Greyqueen - love the idea of a new religion evolving. Were I not against organised religion on principle, I could easily become a devotee to such an attractive cause.
Gailey -you're making me feel exhausted again. Every time I read your posts about all the things you plan/manage to achieve I am lost in admiration. Never mind the negativity from your family love. You hold your head high and be proud of the woman you are.
Fuddle - ignore 'em love. They aren't worth the bother. Sad little people, sad little lives.
To all the others who are having a bad/sad/mad time, (sorry, too many to mention individually) have a dodgy hug or two from me.:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: and remember nihil illigitemi carborundum.
I have finished wrapping the (mainly homemade) pressies tonight so am as organised as I am ever going to be. Unfortunately, I just can't get in the real mood for Christmas at the moment - you may remember we lost our dear dog at the beginning of the month and I think that is probably what is making me feel this way. I haven't even put any decorations up yet but I am determined to make the effort tomorrow and DH has got them down from the loft for me tonight. I'm working on the principle that looking Christmassy might awaken the old Christmas spirit.
'Course, I could always start on the Damson Gin, that might do the trick, whadderyer think?0
