  • I applied and got a new online basic bank account with Smile (http://smile.co.uk)they are part of the co-op and according to payplan, not linked to anyone!

They gave me a decision straight away and my account was up and running within 48 hours!

    Hope that helps.

Oh thanks for that I'm just going to try it now
  • don't know if it helps but when i had to change my bank account from TSB i went to Nationwide and opened up a flex account, my brother is with them too and he has a cashbuilder account. The flex account you can set up direct debit but the cashbuilder you can't, you can only draw out money. I find it to be a good bank.

I have a cashminder account with the Co-op. Everything banking wise can be done through the Post Office and you get a visa electron debit card

  • I don't have a visa or visa electron card and i would like one. I had to change from tsb to nationwide 6 months ago to go on my DMP. How do you apply for the coop gerturdeena? Do you have money problems too and still got a visa electron card. I keep asking at the nationwide when i can get a visa card instead of my debit card i have but they keep saying it's not available to me at the moment.
  • Hi hefalumphippo

I have a terrible credit history and recently opened a Halifax easycash account. It's a basic account where they just verify your identity rather than credit checking you. It doesnt come with a cheque book or overdraft but DOES come with a visa electron card. Very useful for paying bills and the like online and over the phone. You have to pick up a form from a halifax branch and send it off, the account takes two weeks approx to open but is very good, especially if you are easily tempted to spend beyond your means.
  • thanks for that lush-bucket i will check that out and see if i can open an account with them.

Aw congratulations! I bet you are at the whale stage too then!

Incidentally I waited 2 and a half months for A & L too, Card came through last week, pile of rubbish! Im just going to close it down, the halifax one is much better and you get internet banking so you can do all your transfers and payments online and check your balance every day. V helpful! Good Luck with the little one!
  • The Co-op Visa Electron card is a debit card not a credit card. I'm not allowed credit!!:D

I hope i hear soon that i can have one, i use my boyf's visa online then pay him back but i use it alot for little things and he doesn't see the point. I need one of my own - hopefully the sites i use will take visa electron x
