  • Wholewheat penne pasta is still 22p per bag in tesco, not the value stuff, but its tesco own brand italian penne usually 89p per 500g bag, its been this price for months now, i have at least 8-9 bags in my cupboard, its nice, but i tend to over cook mine, so its soft rather than aldente. search grabbits or food and groceries for more details.

Also i got delivery of a half salmon from tesco for £10 when i had cut it into fillets it made 8, which is not bad or i usually wait for sainsburys to do theri 4 salmon fillets half price which is about every 2 months then i buy them 4 for £5 and stock up then, its all about watching for the deals.

You could try salmon trimmings, sainsburys do a pack for 98p, i have a pack im planning to mae with pasta in a creamy sauce, this may not be for you.

Deffo agree about whoopsies, i got some smoked kippers for 50p this was sainsburys ttd, planning to make a chowder.

Make sure you stock up when there are deals.

"Eating is cheating" thats my motto! And its dead cheap ;)

Joking. Seriously though, I was diagnosed with PCOS so started eating healthy, lost 2 stone in total and PCOS sorted and I just had a baby. After a few weeks of eating brown (bread, pasta, rice) I learned to love it and wouldnt go back. The way I see it is i would rather have one slice of brown than 2 slices of white bread. Heathy, yummy and by eating less of it I spend less money :)

i 2nd the 22p wholewheat penne from Tesco. i bought about 6 packs recently. look out for Lidl when the have their w/e deals. some months ago in the summer, they had half-price cous-cous for 49p. i got about 5 boxes left now... it's low in GI and better for stomach probs (I have IBS) and a complex carb.

recently, discoverd whoopsies. if you live in a city, go to a Tesco Express or Sainsburys Express (not sure if they're called that!) their whoospies are cheap late at night. as i work nights, i've been able to pick up 10p bread, 2p milk or 9p brocolli!

Lentils are fairly cheap (considering you can get many meals out of a pack) and healthy. So are dried beans. It takes a long time to cook them but it works out SO much cheaper than canned ones.
Also, dunno about where you shop, but I go to Asda or Morrisons, and their cheap wholemeal bread is the same price as their white.
I often add a tub of pease pudding to soup (thickens it up, quick, and tasty!) Lidl 37p, my local butcher 85p! (You can freeze it, so I buy a tub everytime I'm shopping at Lidl)
Thanks for all of the info on here, great thread, especially Adelight and others with the Lidl products info. I'm also a Lidl fan:T

Sorry, just last time I bought the value pasta it was 22p and in the three tescos I've been to recently I haven't seen this 22p wholewheat pasta.
Living cheap in central London :rotfl:
  • it should be reduced/clearance stock (on the same shelf as the normal pasta) but with a different price ticket. maybe in the stores you've checked had them in already but sold out quickly. i guess the store where i went to, isn't awfully busy compared to the more older, established tesco's round here.

Did losing the weight clear up all the symptoms?

I read that a low GI diet is best for PCOS.
