Hello All,
I come to you guys head in hands really, I would never claim to be good with money but I have just turned 30 and would like to try and sort myself out. I have any previous occasions attempted to go down routes to clear my debt but for one reason or another it just hasn't happened. I have in the last month been speaking to the Money group and I have even paid them my first month but I am unsure how competent they are due to a lack of feedback I get from them. I have looked at CCCS and payplan and these seem the better options but was told that an IVA would wipe 4K off my debt. any advice would be great. Please ask anything I have forgotten and PS I know pay day loans are the worst thing in the world!! SOA as required:

Stop paying the money group. They are a fee charging company and they will take goodness knows how much in fees.
You have put Council Tax under unsecured debt, this needs to come out of there as it is a priority debt and cannot be used for IVA purposes, so you would not qualify for an IVA as this would bring your debt to below £15k.
I would use CCCS or payplan as they are free services to you.
Just ask if you need anything else.Debt free as of 7.20am on 31st December 2012.
Wow. Feels great :j :beer:0 -
I don't know anything about the 'money group' but I do know that you can get FREE and FABULOUS adebt advice from CCS/payplan and so if you are paying any kind of service charge at all then don't use them.

Groceries etc. ......................... 350 this is quite high for a family of 5. if you head over to the 'old style' boards you will be able to get help on reducing it by at least £100/month. You will need your OH's backing for this as it requires cooking for scratch, meal planning etc.
Clothing................................ 80 £80/month? On what? Cut out clothes for yourself, anything the kids really NEED can probably be bought from the supermarkets for les than £20/month.
Petrol/diesel........................... 120 can this be reduced? only you know how much is neccessary journeys to work etc

You need to find out the APRs of the debts... are you really paying nothing to most of them? CCS/payplan will help you work out what to do best.

Can you please advise if PP or CCCS will check m credit files to ensure all my debts are included? Or is it all dependant on what I advise. Just worried I may miss something.0
-
No they won't check your credit file. You will need to get this yourself.
The onus is on you to be as honest with them as you can. As the poster says above there are things that can be cut back on, however I don't agree with the questioning of housekeeping. £350 seems fine for a family of 5 as I budget for just 2 of us, cooking from scratch and we still apend £240 a month.
It is a long hard road but you will get there.Debt free as of 7.20am on 31st December 2012.

I actually lease the car through my work, the money comes out before I am taxed and the only cost to me after I am paid is fuel. The virgin package I have is I admit excessive but I work a lot from home and need a good connection as I do a support role, and it's the only good thing I have. The council tax repayment is through a bailiff and yes I do sometimes get overtime but not clear when how much I will get0
