two jobs tax

just a quick question,

if you have two jobs and the overall income is below the taxable threshold should i pay any tax?, i have just received payment from the new job and seem to have been taxed a significant amount of my wage.

if anyone can shed some light on this it would be great,

thanks

  • I think you automatically get charged basic rate on the second job as they assume you take benefit from your tax free allowance on your first job.

They will refund any tax due at the end of the tax year when they can see your total income.

They may be able to do this from now if you contact them.

what are your taxcodes on the two jobs

probably you 'first ' job will be 747L and you pay no tax on that
and your second is BR and you pay 20% on everything

you can phone the HMRC and ask them to split your tax allowance of 7475 between the two jobs
