Where do I pay the tax owed?

OK, please help the stupid lady! I am self employed but do not earn enough to pay tax so this has never been an issue for me.

For strange reasons my husband was sent a tax return to do this year although he is PAYE and has been with the same employer for 5 or 6 years now. On enquiring he told to just fillit in with those payment details and a note saying he is not self employed. He has a letter back saying he owes £1.32! However, there is nothing on this letter or with it to say how he pays this, and of course it needs doing by tomorrow!

thanks

  • Give them a call. Chances are that they will collect it via his PAYE code.

When did he send his tax return back? Before 30 September?

  • I will ring. Thank you. And, no I sent it off just after Christmas when I did mine (knowing I had nothing to pay) because he left it to me. Ah well, it will have to wait til tonight now as I doubt they'll speak to me and he's at work, grrrrr

  • OK, an update. They did speak to me as I didn't want any info about him IYSWIM. If I'd submitted by the earlier deadline it could have been collected by PAYE but now it needs to be paid by cheque or debit card over the phone. We only have a pre-pay credit card so couldn't do that, so he's told me how to send in the cheque (we don't have a cheque book either but think bank can do that). They've interest would only be pence because its such a small amount.

At least this should be sorted for next time

    thanks again

I presume there are references on the letter. which you will need ro put on the cheque od draft. You could send it to the more appropriate accounts office accorging to where you live.See here for affresses.
