How would you accessorise or customise this dress?

Hello lovely MSE folk!
I have ordered this dress (AA1148) I know it would be too plan for a lot of tastes but i love it's classic elegance.I am trying to come up with ideas on how to "bling" it up a bit.I will discuss it with a seamstress when it arrives but would love some inspiration from creative types. My current thinking is to wear a brooch at the hip and a statement necklace

  • I love it as it is (but I am not a great fan of bling!) I would just add a fantastic necklace and bracelet. N maybe find a coloured shrug or wrap or something for the evening.
    :T
  • That is actually very similar to my dress :) everyone I've asked said they like it plain but I thought about adding something to it. Mine has slight rouching on the bust and someone suggested adding beading across the lines of rouching if that makes sense lol my dress also has a train that sort of comes from the hips so I was thinking of adding a broach to each side. I'll probably just leave it plain lol :)

I've got no idea how to add a photo so can't show you mine sorry

I wouldn't bling it at all - it is beautiful! If you want some sparkle go with a necklace/bracelet/earings/beautiful hair grip. I really would go with pure elegance on this one - fantastic shoes, sleek hair, understated flowers. Bright flowers would also 'bling' it if you need to.

I love it - mine is very similar in shape but has graduating flowers on the back.

Mine - but I wont wear the strap, the flowers are going on a shrug and possibly in my hair.

  • I think it's lovely too. I'm a big fan of understated elegance. Presumably you will have flowers and jewellery that would be enough for me. As previous poster said a shrug or wrap may be handy for if it's cold, something fluffy like Kate had for her evening do perhaps.

    Good choice.

  • Thanks for the input ladies,
It is very me, it was the only dress i tried that i didn't feel like a child dressing up in!
i think i am having a bit of a wobble over how plain it is but i suppose it means i can get away with some very sparkley hair accessories and jewellery.

Don't wobble - it is stunning. Sometimes less really is more. I might be tempted to wear some slightly more dramatic makeup if you dare? Red lippy with hair in a sleek bun would be my choice.

  • I've just found this site with my dress, the other pictures show the side view where the train starts where I might at a broach. Hopefully you will now understand what I meant about beading along the bust lines :)

I do see what you meant though i love the detail around the bust you get from the fabric.

Yes I agree, once it fits properly after all alterations I think the fabric will be placed properly and I might just leave it. I always thought I'd buy a bling dress but I actually like it plain, I'll do the same and have a nice necklace and side tiara or something.
I'm going to hopefully have the back changed to lace up so that might be enough detail for the dress
