[sigh] We don't have Lidl or Aldi here, which is probably why I can't keep my spends downs to such a low level as everyone else. We have Tesco (which I try and avoid unless absolutely necessary - doesn't do my blood pressure any good) or Shoprite, which is an Isle of Man supermarket. Prices are roughly the same in each, so not cheap, especially as I'm sure they up the prices over here. Cheapest bread available is about 88p (Kingsmill)! (Which actually is cheaper than locally made bread using locally grown wheat).0 -
Hiya
This is the year to turn it all around money wise so as well as sorting the credit cards etc out I want to reduce the grocery bill AND eat healthier.
There are 6 of us. 2 adults and 4 kids (14,9,8,4) with large appatites(sp?).
the eldest 2 eat like adults. Also have to follow WW meals to aid my weight loss.
My aim for the next 4 weeks is £300 on food, too high?too low? thats £1.80 per person per day:eek:
My menu for this week is
Wednesday-Chicken tikka, rice and naan
Thursday-Hungarian Goulash, potatoes and veg
Friday-Cheese & onion flan, wedges and beans
Saturday-Broccoli & blue cheese gratin with sausage
Sunday-Roast Turkey(from freezer) roasties and veg
Monday-Beef & Beer Stew with Veg
Tuesday-Haddock & Sweetcorn pie with veg
Packed lunch will be sandwiches, yoghurt and fruit
going to try to use cupboard stock to make some bread and homemade soup too.
So went shopping at Tesco and spent £80.95
Did get 2 large jars of my beloved coffee so that will last at least 2 weeks
And deodourant which will last the month and fabric softener which will last too.
Should i/could i list my shopping so you can see where i could reduce it??em x
Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
Still in week one - am starting the week on saturdays as that's when the CTC comes in - and have spent a grand total of £4.74 so far - mostly because i had family over last week and lots of things got confused and we ate out a fair bit but everyone paid their way so I've not lost out.
21yo dd moved out at the weekend but I am leaving my target as it is for now. i shop most days on my way home from work as i like everything fresh and in any case its easier to carry on the bike in small loads. I have started seperating out the groceries from the bits and bobs so i can see how mch other stuff i am buying.
Result today - multi cultural evening at 10yodd's school with lots of food from around the world so we're stuffed and what i bought for tonight will be tomorrow's tea insteadI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
Oh dear
£28.99 on nappies and wipes, and that was including a special offer and three tokens
We have no cheese, no pasta, no shampoo, no tinned tomatoes. Going over budget this month I thinkThat man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. Henry David Thoreau0 -
Hi everyone
Spent £11.15 in sainsbury's last night on groceries but had vouchers to use up so I actually only spent £1.15 in cash. :T Went in to buy some flour and brown sugar and other bits for some chocolate chip biscuits and chocolate brownies that I am making tomorrow evening.
Thanx to everyone here for your support. It's great reading everyone's posts.

Got a few more things at the weekend, mainly fresh fruit / veg and the one thing that tesco didn't have when we did the big shop.
Current total = 38.62 which leaves 41.38 for the rest of the month, should be ok as we did 2 weeks shopping at the beginning of the month having written 2 weeks worth of meal plans. Plus I'm on a training course 2 days this week which means I'll get 10 quid's worth of luncheon vouchers which I can save.Debts: Mum £3923 0% APR0 -
Hi all,
where have I been? I was still on the January thread! Doh, week one for me in second month of the challenge, going to do Feb 1 -28 to follow paydays. Was really chuffed last month and the DDs's and DD don't seem to have noticed the lack of too many take outs and the dog is surviving.
Have menuplanned and found this to be my saving. Before I used to pretend to buy a months shopping but really this never lasted, hence an overspend. Now it is is clear working week to week.
Good luck everyone!

Been trying to shop local and pick up as I go along, it's just not working, over £60 already! Going to try and resist the shops for the rest of the week. I shouldn't really need anything extra. Fruit and veg delivery Thursday but hopefully won't spend any more than that. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
I ordered an organic box on 1st Feb. Paypal payment has cleared but box not arrived yet  I have run out of fruit and veg and am afraid to buy more as if the box comes some will end up going in bin. Have e-mailed the company but no reply. How long do other people's boxes take?
I bought loads of basics last week and I have put lots of things in my cupboard under the stairs. I haven't told my kids about this as the biccies would be done in a week:rotfl:
Problem is last night I wanted a twix and left bag lying out and DD clocked it this morning. Now if I had been following fly lady rules I would have put that away before bed. Back in cupboard though until Thusday. This is the first time I have tried doing shopping this way and as you can see from sig I spent loads but hopefully it will work out if I am careful. Each time I go over my budget it means my separate budget account for big expenses needs to be used and I am really really wanting to do this.5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.000
