You probably won't get any discounts on the 'retail' version, but perhaps you should look at the OEM versions. Several online sellers are selling (quite legally) these OEM versions. These have the same funtionality as the retail versions. Check out overclockers.co.uk, aria.co.uk and dabs.co.uk. I bought Vista Ultimate OEM for £109!

Thx I was under the impression the oem was very different from full retail version when for eg,,,changing mainboard or cpu ???? You could only do a harware change once or twice if lucky..0

Yes the licencing terms are different. Although OEM versions and retail versions funtion in exactly the same way, you are restricted with regards to hardware upgrades. With OEM, the licence is tied to the PC it is installed on. You can still change things like the hard disk, memory and graphics card but if you change the motherboard to a different model then you won't be able to reactivate Windows. If you changed the motherboard as the result of say a fault, and replaced it with the same model, you would be ok.
The retail version is a little more liberal when it comes to transfering the licence to another PC.
If your current PC is capable of running Vista, and you don't want to change the PC, then get the OEM. If you're likely to change the machine entirely in the short term then the retail may be better for you.
I recently upgraded my current PC with some new parts, so I won't really be doing any major changes to the hardware for the next couple of years. It was cheaper for me to buy the OEM version.
One other point to note; with OEM you don't have any 'support' from Microsoft. Generally though, answers to most things can be found using Google anyway.
