Lowell Finance - Christmas gifts .....

Ok my partner got through a red leaflet which says 12 days of christmas and address on back
when you open it up it is from lowell finance claiming he owes someone money but it says if you pay 20 too your account by the 21st december they will give you 12 christmas gifts
this is a very sneaky way of getting someone to pay a debt off that they knew nothing about
is it just me who thinkt that a number of people will fall for this

Wow that is nasty.
People will fall for all sorts of crazy things.
I'd send a copy to the OFT if I were you (or your other half)A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Odds on that the debt is coming up to be SB in Dec and they are trying to get a payment as acknowledgement of the debt.
I imagine the 12 'Christmas Gifts' will be in the form of threatening letters and phone calls for the rest of the alleged debt!0 -
This is illegal based on OFT guidelines. What it says to me is that the debt is more than likely statute barred and they are trying to get you to pay £20 so you acknowledge the debt again.
As Tixy said, send it to the OFT and watchdog for good measureDebt free as of 7.20am on 31st December 2012.
Wow. Feels great :j :beer:0 -
My wife got the same letter today and she wrote back saying unfortunately I'm unable to accept your gracious offer as I'm Jewish.
She never fell for it either
I'm not poor i'm just skint0 -

I have a debt with Lowell which I am repaying as part of a DMP through the CCCS. That has not stopped them over the last few days sending me two text messages to my home phone and today an email about this '12 Days of Christmas' offer. I expect I will receive a letter tomorrow!
Their website t&c's state the 12 gifts as:
2 for 1 dining, free health and fitness, free pamper treatment , free dance lesson for 2 , free family portrait , half price MOT, free nights out , free sports experiences, Great British break, free talent / stage school lesson, 2 for 1 days out, family entertainment.
In other words all 12 are offers that any of us can find for ourselves (if we wish) through forums etc. Naturally I shall not be accepting their offer!0
