Hi I would like to get the internet but dont want a BT phone line as i have no use for it. Anyone know what would be my best options. I have heard about dongle but the restrictions on this are far too small to make it practical and sadly im outside Virgin area.

Plusnet is owned by BT and you need a BT line to the property.0 -
Here's an option but very expensive so your only realistic option is to have a fixed line installed

A dongle is not satisfactory as a permanent solution as you state.0 -
Unless you're very rural, Virgin or BT are the only options. A 'BT Line' includes lots of unbundled options like Sky, O2, AOL, TalkTalk etc if they're unbundled in your area (LLU) but you're stuck with rental for a phoneline that you'll never use (like me) plus rental for BB. Virgin would be the same, and not cheaper!0

When OFCOM eventually grow a set and rip into the telecoms industry we will all be able to have broadband without a phone line (or indeed stupid phone charges) They have promised a review into BT, making them in the future provide a line for BB only if the customer so requires. I'm not holding my breathe thou
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
if you have an iphone/smart phone with relatively good 3g you can use them sort of as your modem, I had a BT dongle and it expired and a friend said you can use iphone - its called tethering or something - all legal and above board...i think :rotfl: i have used it quite few times now with my laptop0

we live in rural tyrone and can't get broadband so we use a satellite system which is excellent, only needed because bt haven't updated our exchange. we don't need a phone line but still have one????0

When I moved into my house a few years ago I got Virgin Broadband without the phoneline and I was paying approx £20 a month, checking on virgin site it is now £21.
Sky came round last year and offered us TV, Broadband (2GB download Limit) and Talk for £30 (HD +£10) as well as free installation of phone line. I frequently go over my limit so sky have just upgraded me to the unlimited package for an extra £7.50 a month.
Before I got my internet upgraded by sky I was checking around for any better offers and didn't really see any and currently you are talking about £23.50 a month for unlimited sky broadband, sky talk (includes rental and unlimited evening / weekend landline calls)
The 3G dongle route would be a nightmare, once you leave Belfast the 3G signal gets quite weak which also means slow. Ok if you are using a mobile and it is refreshing in the background but waiting for a page on a laptop / pc to load would not be practical.0
