If you have got these as a present after your wedding spend them now, if thomas cook go bust you wont get your money back but if you have spent them already it is classed as cash
please dont buy them as a gift as the future is uncertain at the moment

We got about £1000 worth of these last month! Am now looking at getting the holiday booked as soon as we can. They reckon that the worst thing will be if people panic and stop booking as that'll hit TC harder - the line they're still saying is that it's business as usual and there's loads of threads on the TC situation on here and other places. Plenty of other companies have been in this situation and people have never known but the press have really got hold of this one and it's exploded

Get it booked and use these to pay a deposit - then pay any cash balance later when it's due. One never knows how these things will progress, but it's better to be happy & booked than sad with no honeymoon.

We received them last year, and paid for our September honeymoon in March, just so we knew we had what we wanted.

    Hi,

Yes if you have vouchers get a holiday booked, i'm praying they will be ok as we have our wedding holiday booked with them & so do half our guests. I think(hoping) that they will be fine, but if people keeping panicing & don't book it could be the end. They are ATOL protected so no need to worry.
Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

I've booked my honeymoon through them but I think it is a First Choice holiday anyway so we would be able to go even if Thomas Cook weren't around any more.

One thing that Martin didn't mention is what if you have paid the deposit for the holiday only. Would I have to pay the rest to First Choice or someone else?

Would it be better to pay the deposit (over £100) with a credit card to be doubly sure?

If you have paid your money to thomas cook then even though its a first choice holiday, then you have booked with thomas cook...

My understanding is that your deposit is safe because of ABTA and ATOL..which will refund your money paid if thomas cook go into administration...

At the moment they are still very much trading so you will need to pay the balance of your honeymoon to them when it is due...if you cancel your honeymoon you will lose the deposit so at the moment most people seem to suggest its a case of wait and see...

I suppose if thomas cook do go into administration then in your case you may possibly be able to re book your exact honeymoon with first choice if its still available and at an agreeable price.
frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

    2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend

Definitely not going to cancel. Both ATOL and my travel insurance will cover me if they go into administration so why lose my deposit because of what ifs.

According to Martin's Q&A he says:
I've bought a holiday where Thomas Cook is the travel agent. Am I covered?

In most cases, the future of Thomas Cook is irrelevant to you.

So if you've booked a British Airways flight, a Thomson or First Choice holiday etc via Thomas Cook you should be able to go away as planned.

Either the tour operator, airline or hotel will already have your cash so can provide the service, or it will still offer the service if Thomas Cook has not passed the money over and seek a refund from Abta.
    and
What if I've paid a deposit only?

These would be covered in the same way as paying in full.

Of course, if the holiday goes ahead and you don't pay the difference, you'll lose the deposit.
So I will still be able to go even if they do go into administration. My point is, what if I haven't paid the full amount. Who do I pay the rest to?

Who do you pay the rest to....?

The answer to that is you dont pay the rest to anyone ....because at that point you dont have a holiday....if it was booked through thomas cook then your contract is with them...not with first choice....if thomas cook go out of business then your deposit will be refunded via insurance or whatever....

It is then up to you to go and re book your holiday with another tour operator...this could be first choice or any other operator...although you have to appreciate that whatever you book may not be the same price as you were quoted with thomas cook.

At that point I don't have a holiday because it is only a deposit? So if I pay the whole thing then I am fine?

It's this point in Martin's Q&A I am referring to:

It is a first choice holiday booked through Thomas Cook.

it looks like first choice would ask you to pay the rest to them but unfortunately nothing is set in stone at the moment so its a case of wait and see
