Maybe be so - BUT the Union leaders need to accept it too. There fighting for things that are just not possible nthe current climate and need to understand that.
We had every possiblility to be high value like germany. Unfortunately that needs manufacturing not knowledge. The Unions effectively ruined our manufacturing base by making it too expensive to run and un-competetive inthe global market with their demands. That led to the government selling off or closing such things as mines, steelworks etc.0 -

I don't agree with this bit about manufacturing. Investment in manufacturing is a long term commitment with heavy capital injection up front.
We seem to think we can have high quality manufacturing without the necessary capital injection. I have said before I have been involved in pricing up a new plant only to see it being abandoned in favour of cheap Chinese manual labour. Good economics or short term investment city lead, you decide.
Modern SCARA robots have never been more cost effective than they are today. They have higher accuracy; less downtime; good footprint and good cycle times. They just take longer to pay back than using a Chinese or Korean person on 50 or a 100 dollars a month.0 -

True - but at one time we already had a lot of the infrastructure. Investment was needed to bring some of it up to date - BUT instead the investment went into "knowledge" based areas - and the infrastructure and manufacturing int he UK in general went to ruin.
Now we need those jobs and those exports but we havent got them. Its much harder to restart it - as you say.0 -
I guess they would want to join euro as think they would have a bailout option if went pearshaped and westminister couldent bail out.
remain in eu as imagine scotland gets eu subsidies too. Or maybe save money by joining EFTA? Or promising an EU referendum within 5-10 years of Independence? That might be a real vote-winner!

Think the nhs costs must be vast as they quite an unhealthy nation in terms of drink, obesity and smoking. I think you're contradicting your previous point, at least in spirit! And Finland had that problem and fixed it!
Guess they save on justice when giving terroists early release!:rotfl:What? just one? why not hundreds with thousands of British ciizens blood on their hands, in another nation very near by!
I think scotland voted snp as labour so crap and they never vote tory. Nope, they were just very competent. Masses still voted Labour but they'd seen the alternative, and I guess they liked it!
would be more interesting in westminister how labour would fare without scottish votes. Badly
Annoys me they can vote on english issues like tuition fees yet we cant have any say on theres. Of course the SNP don't vote on these things.

A lot of senior labour mps are scottish and feel they did well by scotland ie airfcraft carrier that we couldent afford in gordons constituency! not Scotland's fault the UK governement wants an aircraft carrier with unafordable aircraft- hardly an indicator of good UK financial nous!
Cant stand alex salmond he so arraogant and thinks hes god his little side kick nicolas equally annoying. Well I know lots of English people who wish they had politicians who'd stick up for their people like these guys do!
I have nothing against scottish people though.
its a lovley country just unsure if indepenence is right for them? What, not like the other nearly 200 countries of the workld -they're uniquely unsuited to it?
I tend to switch off question time if scotland what?
