teacher's strike

One child is affected by the strike and told not to come to school. Elder sibling is not affected and told to come to school.
Parent wants to take child/ren out for the day. Elder sibling wants to go to school but not now as told will take younger sibling out.

WHat would you do?

  • fair enough - just an interesting thought, thought I would put it out and see what other parents would do.

I would be sending the one that should be at school to school.

Depending on age but maybe explain about why the strike is happening & individual choices of teachers. Good for debates!

My initial reaction would have been to say "tough" to the oldest...but I can see how they could find it unfair depending on the nature of the day out. When you say "out", do you mean a real treat kind of thing (ie: cinema, fair...etc), or just a bit of walking around the parc?

If it's a treat thing, I would not go at all because the oldest would feel deprived. But then again, I wouldn't have mentionned it in the first place anyway, because there is no way oldest wouldn't be going to school and now youngest will be disappointed.

If it's just a pop round the local parc, then I'd say tough.

I was going to say that but thought it would set off the debate here! One of the teachers in school is striking (but not one that we have) and I will be telling my girls all about it and they are year 2 and reception.

If the school is open as usual, then they should be at school.

It happened with mine last year. It's only a day.
