advice please:
due to childcare problems i'm not 100% sure i can go to my works xmas party(evening do-dinner and disco-age range 20-45 ish).
So,i don't want to splash out on a dress/outfit i may not end up wearing. However, i do have two black dresses, one is a very plain wrap dress, quite "fitted" and knee length. The other is a sleeveless shift dress, with sparkly bits around the neck/bust area, also knee length. How could i accessorise to make a bit more "party-ish?
Next problem-shoes. i have some high heel mary janes which are lovely, and a pair of nude patent heels with a gold buckle which i absolutely adore.what would be best choice?what sort of tights-plain/patterned/coloured/black/lacy etc.
please tell me what to wear!!:o

Personally, I would just choose one accessory to go with your dress. Probably a necklace with the wrap dress or if you wear the shift dress, earrings or a bracelet.
Do you usually wear gold jewellery? If so, I'd wear the nude shoes with nude tights (supposed to make your legs look longer) and one piece of gold jewellery.
If you don't usually wear gold and usually go for silver, I'd go for the black shoes (with whatever tights you want) and then silver/or a strong, bright, colour item of jewellery.
I've got quite simple tastes though so just one accessory might not suit your style.0 -
thank you.you can probably tell i don't go out much!!0

Fingers crossed you can go then!
At least you've got two black dresses. You can't go wrong with those, they both sound ideal.0 -
the black shift sounds ideal xmas party wear :T
the wrap sounds more of a day/casual dress, esp if there is a disco and lots of 20somethings.
the shift sounds like a classic lbd party dress and would work with either pair of shoes & sheer black or nude tights.
do you have any strappy stilettos?? they could give a more partyish look.
I would also stick to a cute bracelet and earrings- maybe something sparkly that could be picked up quite cheaply and worn again but would finish your outfit

hi Gem,
come back and update us on the final party look :T
have a fab time, I'm sure you will look lovely!!0 -
it would be better if you described your body shape and your hairstyle too (and age), that way we would have a better image of you than us just focussing on the dresses. some ppl who go out 'on the razz' look awful as they're usually wearing the latest trends when clearly they're way too old/frumpy for glittery skin-tight leggings, or backless dresses! not that i'm implying the OP is anything like that at all with her dress choices.
at my xmas do, i wear the same work-do xmas dress that i have been doing for the past 3 yrs! it's a chiffon-y floral red, white and black knee-length sleeveless dress with v-neck front, and embroiderery bits on it. i don't usually have accessories other than my normal dainty gold necklace and bracelet, and it's teamed with patent mary jane 4' heels. my hair comes down and big curls made with the straighteners. my make-up is a bit bolder than usual as in added mascara and eyeshadow. btw, i'm a 10, 5' and 8.5st. so all in all, i don't think i look that bad, just a little more glamorous than my usual get-up, but far from major efforts than most women would go to tho'..i'm just not that show-y i guess. i just wear what i like and i don't usually like wearing something coz it's in fashion....0
