SMA Sunnybeam or Geo Solo monitor

Options
Hi,
I have just had a PV system installed.
The installer's have given me a choice between a SMA Sunnybeam or a Geo Solar monitor.
Has anyone got any views on which is better?
The Sunnybeam takes data from the inverter and the Solo takes information from the generation meter (via a clamp)
I do not currently have access to the inverter on bluetooth.
Any comments appreciated
Best wishes

  • Got a Sunnybeam and I'm really happy with it.

If the Solo takes information from the generation meter it won't tell you 'incidents' occurring with the inverter.

  • Hi,
Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated.
I think I will go for the Sunnybeam especially as it gives me information on the SMA inverter - incidents etc.

  • Is anyone using the Geo Solo to comment please?

  • The sunnybeam is a nifty little gadget but the Geo is also fabulous. The sunnybeam is alot more expensive and it does show all the technical data straight from the inverter but if standard viewing of generation is what your after then the Geo is great, smart looking and gives you all the info you want, the Geo also comes with a SD card which holds data and you can log on online and keep track of historical figures etc.
  • I have the Sunnybeam linked to the inverter via bluetooth - really clear display, with lots of useful information. I was given it free, but would probably have gone for a device that read both the incoming electricity meter and generation meter at the same time if not - however, these cost circa £500 so not cheap. The novelty of watching the display constantly wore off after a couple of weeks, but very useful in identifying any problems with the panels if you check it every now and again.
  • Hi,

Thanks for all the advice - I choose the Sunnybeam and it arrived this week. It certainly looks the business and the functionality appears to be just what I wanted.
It's got a clever device which tells you connection strength (via the diagnosis menu) so you can wander around the house looking at where it can be placed to receive a signal from the loft.
I will report back when I have had a chance to play with it further (we had a power cut all day yesterday so didn't get my hands on it!)
    Best wishes
