I don't rinse after brushing. First time I flossed, my gums bled a little for the first couple of times.

I dont have heart problems but I have been getting nosebleeds recently. Ive never had serious health problems but I am 44 and dont have sugar in tea or coffee, eat healthy and exercise but I have chocolate at weekend. Not overweight or anything.

my braun Oral B electric toothbrush made gums much healthier. The biggest issue was that I only brushing teeth, not gums.

brook2jack, is it normal to have more red gums underneath the front teeth. This is the only area in mouth, I can't get to a nice colour. I think this is where the bacteria are living, but the gum also tingles slightly in this area, never any bleeding. And do some people have naturally dark red gums but healthy, or should everyones gums be the pink colour.

Well Ive just flossed right up the gum line of every tooth I can reach. Cant reach the back ones.

    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Different people from different ethnic groups may have differently coloured gums. But if one patch if gum feels different and looks different you still have inflammation and cleaning up there is not as good as it could be.

Make sure to wrap the floss around the tooth in a c shape and get the floss underneath the gum.

yep, good flossing tends to lie with the c shape. Flossing is great, I never seem to get bad breath or anything. I also eat a carrot/cucumber after every meal when available to clean mouth which helps too.

  • I must have cleaned teeth too hard last night, gums aching today on top row. Anyway monday im going round the dentist to get advice and possibly register with one.

My friend at work had same problem years ago cleaning didnt help and so she was put on strong course of antibiotics, my dentist wont do that as an option.

I need to try this option if there is bacteria in the gums thats not staying.

No. Antibiotics are not advised for anything other than acute sudden infections such as aug (trench mouth), or occaisionally wisdom tooth infections. They will do nothing for your problems . Antibiotics are never used for plain gingivitis .

There are always bacteria in the mouth. You have to clean effectively to keep the bacteria that is normally present in the mouth from sticking to the gums. That means flossing everywhere, using a small toothbrush or electric toothbrush effectively.

Buy disclosing tablets and use them. You are very unlikely to have cleaned too hard last night keep at it and use floss under the gums and in a c shape around the tooth.

My friend is in her 50s and had gingivitis, her dentist put her on antibiotics and the infection cleared up. I have also spoken to other people who also were prescriped the antibiotics by their dentist for gum bleeding problems.
I am trying everything now, electric toothbrush on order and also disclosing tablets and hydrogen peroxide to mix with my bicarb toothpaste on saturday.

Ive been using the floss in the c shape.
My teeth have no tartar on them Ive checked, even when i had the deep clean there was hardly any tartar. I never let it build up.
If this doesnt work after a few weeks Ill know its something else.

I know my own body and know that at 44 something is not right, last year had frozen shoulder which has healed, was under stress during the time my dad was dying, been getting short nosebleeds, periods only two days long. I had test at doctors that shown no menopause. But ive not had any colds for two years.
So I can only think something is taking a knock, maybe immune system is lacking something.
