Musty smell in laundry

Hi all
how do I get rid of that musty smell that is in clean laundry which has taken too long to dry? It's been hung up but possibly too close together meaning it hasn't dried, stayed damp and begun to smell a little.
I am loathe to wash it ALL again- any suggestions?

Hang it on the shower rail in the bathroom and open the bathroom window and close the bathroom door.
Now you are going to tell me you have no shower rail and window in the bathroomBSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
I have this problem too Thanks Tigerfeet!" :T"Friendship is certainly the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love." Jane Austen.

I have that problem but find it's always worse when the clothes have sat in the washing machine for a while before I've taken them out & hung them up.....I don't mean for hours or days (!), I just mean that the cycle might have finished before I've got up (I set the washer overnight when it's cheaper electricity tariff as we are on Economy 7) & even an hour or two this time of year seems to make a difference.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

This is affecting our household too, OH thinks buying a tumble dryer will solve it! The horror. What I've done is clean my washing machine using white vinegar in wash drawer and put it on a 95C. Then wash a load and dry it before washing another. But still getting it on the cotton items.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. If the loads smelling after only a short time in the machine
I'd try a boil wash with no washing and some detergent with bleach first just to make sure there wasn't something in the machine that's causing the problem.0 -
Another optiom for those whose washing is taking an age to dry and is smelling musty is to get a dehumidifer and put it on near the washing, it will dry much quicker.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

open a window when drying the washing so the damp air can escape, that would be my advice, also put the washingmachine on an empty boilwash put half a bottle of vinegar in and during the hot wash add a spoonfool of bleach, after the wash has finished i would remove the drawer and scrub it with soapy vinegar water andremove the soapy mouldy deposits (old toothbrush is good for that), also have a look at bit where you removed the drawer, that usually has soapy mouldy deposits that should be removed and cleaned. I always leave the drawer and door open after a wash so it can air out for a bit.
