Hi guys, first post ever so be gentle... :hello:
There may be a lot of DVD sales coming up in the near future because of the advent of new technology.
High Definition TV technology has arrived and ordinary DVDs will now have to compete with both HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray DVDs coming on to the market. The picture with this tech could be up to 4x more detailed than current broadcast TV (provided you have a TV and the right cabling and the right source such as a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD Player). So you are definitely going to see at some point the same pricing situation with DVDs as Videos are currently in (there are some insanely cheap Vids out there because no one wants them anymore).
The downside is twofold:
1) as with all new tech it's pricey (remember VHS?! )
2) the technologies are incompatible (a blu-ray disc will not play on HD-DVD player etc. Remember VHS and Betamax?!)
BTW, my top tip for saving on tech this year is NOT to buy a Blu-Ray player. If you are going to go with Sony's format, the Blu-ray (bigger storage capacity and my personal pick of the two), buy a Playstation 3 when they come out in March. It's cheaper than buying a standalone Blu-ray player AND it's got a built-in Blu-ray player so you can play High Definition games and watch Blu-ray movies in High Def (if you have the right TV and cabling).
Apologies if there are tons of messages elsewhere with this info - I've only just 'arrived' really! :rolleyes2
Hope this helps someone,

Grrrrrrrrrrr - cancelled 1 of the items from my order 2 days ago and then got an email today to say that that item has been dispatched - the other 3 books (which I do still want) are all 'on order'. Can I return to store for a refund? (Would have to be the Waverley Station one as that's the nearest)"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."

I ordered the Stargate SG1 season 1 box set from W H Smith's on the 29th but my order status has continually shown up as "On Order" since then and it's sold out on the site now. This is the only thing I ordered so I have just cancelled it and ordered it from Amazon instead - it's £15.97 and qualifies for free delivery. A little more expensive but worth it IMHO as it's currently in stock.0

Hi - I ordered a couple of items when this thread was first posted but by the time I saw it a lot of items were out of stock.
Have been back on the smiths site today and almost all the sale items are back in stock.
The only downside is that smiths have put most of the prices up a couple of pounds. They still represent extremely good buys though.
I've stocked up on kids dvds ready for a long drive through France (and the long haul to Portsmouth too!)0 -
