Credit Report - please help!

I am totally new to this, but want to start taking control! I have just signed up to see my credit report, which unfortuantely I agree with...
All of my other things are fine and green, but I had a loan as a student and defaulted in 2006. Since then I have been paying one of those companies who buy the loan off the bank and have been making monthly payments to them for years. This doesn't show at all so it just looks like I haven't bothered paying for it.
Is there anything that I can do about this? I remeber that the last payment would be in 2012 as it seemed so long until the olympics when I first set it up! When I have completed will it be removed then or will it forever come up as unpaid?
Thanks for your help

I am not an expert on this but I was of the impression it took 6 year to clear from the date it was settled. BUMP for the right person anyway!.0

You need to complain to the company you are paying, as they should update your credit files regularly to show that the outstanding balance is reducing.
The default and account will be removed from your credit record 6 years after you defaulted, whether or not you have finished paying by then.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
