To the poster above who recommends Premium Bonds ... yes, agree - got them, wife has them too - that's only £60,000 taken care of.

My ISA's are full to brimming, so are the Wifes.

My savings are quite substantial and earning a poxy 3% - minus Higher Rate Tax.

£10,000 into these shares isn't a great gamble for me to be blunt ... and, I think I will hold for a small rise and sell, won't be too greedy - but they are too cheap by half IMO.

  • Wish you luck, MrRee, hope you do well. There was an 'Uncrossing' transaction last thing, I assume that this is some kind of book-keeping thing rather than an actual trade - says 5.2 m share buy.

The last price was 10.18p - but up from 9.3p. Anyway, very best of luck. Very courageous.
  • This strikes me as a large company that has failed to move with the times, they have tried to be everything to everyone and specialized in nothing.

It is not borrowing money to fund expansion projects or investment, and I think the reality is that any business with very few fixed assets that is borrowing money to survive the 'weak xmas period' is on its last legs?

The news today isn't going to instill much confidence for anyone about to book a holiday so it doesn't bode well?

True ... I take your point.

But, to be honest, £10,000 in a savings account is earning me 3% and I pay higher rate tax on that!

The punt is worth it to me ... I get some wrong, but some calls have been great.

Here goes .............. *holds nose and jumps into the deep end*

Why dont you just knock all the investing on the head and enjoy your retirement ?

Its quite a depressing way to spend your retirement i think.

Unless of course you need to make some money fast as your finances are going to take a massive hit now that the house price crash is here, if that is the case then crack on lad:)

"If only" eh, lend me 10k so i can buy a wife.

Would 10k get me a wife or a top of the range wife (not too sure on wife prices).

I have done some sums and i calculate that within 8 years of me buying my first wife, i will have earned enough back in intrest from using her isa allowance to cover what i originally paid out for cheryl.:money:.

Cheryl is what i am going to call my new wife.

I dont want PPI with the loan either:money:

I urge you if you havent already to watch the channel 4 news interveiw with thomas cook was even worse than the sky news one.
he agreed the in too much debt and when quizzed if they were going busy he said no rather unconvincingly he had that look we doomed.
basically they at mercy of banks.
now its slow season and winter and they struggling to service the debts they have and need to restructure their business model and perhaps inprove their pr.

I think they going down, might be a slow death but dont think banks will take the risk. maybe try shares in large property developers instead.

You are clearly very hard of understanding .... I shall say this just the once more to you (after that I will assume you are completely unable to comprehend anything other than what the fairies in your mind tell you) ........ here we go, are you ready?

    I .... Have .... No .... Other .... Account .... I .... Am .... Only .... MrRee

Has that sunk into that thick skull of yours? I would add that I am very proud of my MrRee posts - why on earth would I want to dilute them with any other account name? I wouldn't you thicko!!

I agree with MrRee. Worth a punt if you've got some spare lying around. I'm in for 4k. Let's see what happens.
