I took DS to the session after all. He had a great time and I don't feel too tired just yet. So much for a NSD though, because we need bread and milk. Hmm. We'll aim for tomorrow instead I think.

So, do I walk ten minutes to the shop where the prices are higher and choice limited, but won't get tired out, or do I walk twenty minutes to Tesco for lower prices (and milk that lasts properly) but probably end up tired?

Meh. Not really any choice there. Will head off to Tesco later AFTER I've done a bit of baking.

  • How about one of these

I have one for me and one for hubby and i spent a couple of hours the other day filing everthing and making sure everything was up to date, filing seems a lot easier when you have an organised place to put stuff and you feel so much better when you have done it.

That looks pretty good, thanks :) We've got some box files on a shelf at the moment. The trouble is that everything needs to be high up to be out of DS's reach, but if it's out of his reach it might well be out of mine too!

Well, one way to avoid spending money is to spend a couple of nights in hospital :/ I was really poorly on Friday with some random D&V and some lovely people in an ambulance took me to A&E. Fluids and various medications, and I escaped today.

I have already established what OH spent while I was incarcerated and made sure all the account details are up to date. I also have an exact figure now for OH's smaller credit card debt: £354.31, but it's at a staggering 34.95% APR. I have insisted that a large chunk is paid to them tomorrow. OH seems... not so much reticent as scared I think. He doesn't want to pay them very much because he's scared of having no money left. I can understand that, but I really don't want Capital One to take any more of our hard-earned cash than is strictly necessary.

I have set up an instant access (no limit to access) account with the Post Office to transfer money in for MOT, car tax, clothes and all that random jazz that I've never budgeted for before.

Feeling quite pleased and proud tbh, and hoping I can drag OH along in my wake...

Banking all checked for the day (ho ho). Bugs me that it doesn't update online quickly enough, so particularly by Monday it's not quite right.

Still haven't managed a NSD. I personally manage a fair few of them, but OH always seems to have something he needs to get. I let him have a (cheap) takeaway last night because I didn't want to eat and he'd worked hard looking after DS (mostly) on his own and visiting me in hospital.

I'm hoping that after a month of me being ultra-attentive to money details it'll pay off (ie we won't have wasted money and will be able to afford the bits we need) and OH will be convinced by the efforts I'm making. He's not being difficult or anything, but I can tell he doesn't like all the money talk. Clearly not talking about money hasn't worked because otherwise we wouldn't be in debt.

  • i understand about the OH mine was a bit like that it took a few stern words when i found out that he had bought something which was unnecessary, i got out the spreadsheet sat him down and listed everything we owed and how long it would probably take to pay off, i think that woke him up a bit. Especially when i showed all the things id cut back on yet he thought he was making an effort but clearly wasnt making any changes. Saying you cant afford it is one thing, not buying it is another.

I also think that he thought by setting up a d/d to pay a set amount per month he could sit back and forget about it when i showed him how much money he could save by trying to pay them off early (particularly the loan) it made him start to think about actively reducing the debts.

Hope your OH has his LBM soon!

He's starting to get there :) I moaned about his "only coca-cola" mantra because it's so damned expensive. He wants to have bottles of it at home AND buy cans to take to work. He chose cans of Vimto instead because it was much cheaper. A small success, but a success nonetheless. He also phoned up one of his credit cards and got the exact figures of what he owes and the APR, and did the same with his overdraft.

In other news, I've got an appointment on Monday to see a surgeon about being activated on the transplant list! There's a long road ahead, but at least I'll be actually on the road, instead of looking at it.

I'm starting to feel more human after the gastroenteritis, although food is still something I'm not particularly interested in. I have managed to plan lots of lovely meals and not spent a fortune, however. I also logged into the clubcard stuff and found some ancient voucher codes, which was great.

I've got to pay for our wedding ceremony next. Unfortunately this is a CC job :( because it has to be paid at the time of booking and we'd arranged it before getting all moneysavingy. Nothing else is going on it though.

  • Have you tried the aldi/lidl pop? huby now likes this more than branded stuff. Got to be worth a try at 40ish pence a bottle.

I haven't... but he insists that it has to be coke because he's tried every other brand and every other brand is horrid. I think some Aldi coke has to be worth a go though.
