Nil tax code - confused

Folks thanks, so if one were concerned about BR being a flag to their employer it would be best to have the BR declared on 1st March say? This wouldn't create a nil tax code for the following year, just the tax year the BR occurred within?0

BR isn't the only reason for a nil tax code and an employer will not be told you are BR. If they make the assumption you can just smile sweetly and say "a nil tax code can mean many things".
Is there a particular reason you are worried about your employer finding out though? A BR clause in your contract for instance. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

I went br in Oct 08 and had a nil taxcode for 3 months and the or and moonbeever never asked for the £600 I kept safe in a savings account. I realise I was unusual but it does happen especially if you don't have an ipa ! We finally spent it this summer on a family holiday!
