rang sky today
haggled for a decent offer,
Sky offered
2mb broadband (40GB allowance), uk landline calls (anytime) and the basic tv package
for 20/quid a month (first two months at 12.50) + 40 pounds connection fee
is this a good deal ????
expecting a callback at 17.30 to complete deal, just though id get your thoughts.
one other thing iv heard in the past that certain sky boxes (standard boxes) are better than others. (in the past panasonic sky box being better than the pace box). when the installer comes do i get a choice in the matter as to which box is given, and does anybody know which box is best?

I would check the broadband component, as the £5.00 per month package is up to 8mbps with 40G allowance, the one off fee should be £20. So they are knocking £15 of the first couple of months but are charging you £20 over the odds for the initial connection.
I assume you are on an LLU exchange?
I'm on 2 mixes and mid broadband and pay £20 a month.
I have also heard that they are scrapping the £10 charge( basic channel customers) for Sky plus boxes from next month, but I bet they won't be able to talk about that yet. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
oooh I like the idea of them scrapping the £10 sky plus charge where did you hear this?Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

when the advisor rang back he did the connection fee for 20/pounds.
so in total
2mb broadband / Anytime Landline calls / basic TV pack (inc news+docu profiles)
12.50/month for first two months then...
20/month for next 10 months
Plus a sky wireless router box!
quick maths over the year
(12.50 x 2) + (20 x 10) + 20 = 245, 245 / 12 = 20.41
20.41 per month - sounds about right
Fitted this friday!
(and here i was paying Pipex 25/mth for 1000mins calls to landlines and up to 8mb broadband!)
with regards to the 8mb broadband issue, i aint one for downloading large files etc, i download th occasional mp3, and mostly shop online and check emails etc and so 2mb is fine with me.
Saying that though iv read somewhere that some isp's say they will offer 8 / 12 /24 mb but in reality only offer a fraction of what is stated. Apparently the bandwidth is all to do with how far you are from the exchange (amongst other factors). and though some companies say we'll offer you 12mb/second in reality you'l only get 2mb/s if thats what the line to your house will carry! ive heard in cities like London you would get the higher bandwidth broadband up to 24mbs but here up north in a town like bolton 2mb and down the road in manchester 8mb/s is the norm !0 -
