Mattress Toppers - Any reason why not?

I had a thread about mattresses a couple of weeks ago but not much feedback but then I thought;
Is there any reason not to buy a double sided pocket sprung mattress and a separate memory foam topper.
My reasoning is this, it would widen the choice of double sided mattresses which means it could still be turned, the memory foam could be taken off when it's too hot, i.e. during the summer and the memory foam can be easily replaced if it comes to the end of it's life before the pocket springs?
Any reasons not to go this route? Seems to make perfect sense, especially being able to remove it in the summer.

Just found your original post.
"Hi, I am looking for a short mattress to fit on a built in bed in a small space, it needs to be 6ft and most mattress's seem to be 6'3 standard. A friend of mine reckons a memory foam one would expand to fit the gap, but think that will be an expensive mistake if I get it wrong! Any suggestions would be great!"
Memory foam mattresses (& I'm guessing toppers although I haven't used them) won't expand or contract their overall dimensions. The 'memory' is because they remember & return to their original shape as one moves on top of them.
The only way to get a custom size mattress is to have it made. There are companies online who do this but I have never used them so can't recommend one, sorry. Good luck with your hunt

Do it!
This is exactly what we did around this time last year and we love it. Very comfy compared to not having the topper on and much much cheaper than buying a whole memory foam mattress0 -

Thanks all. Don't worry about the last thread, I did get some replies but was looking for some to back up what they were saying but its irrelevant now if I'm going to get two separate items. Time to start looking at whats around (again!).0

FYI : Itismehonest, that's not my original post, mine was about choosing between two models of mattress, lovell or madrid, a couple of weeks ago now. Thanks anyway.0
