Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this. My landlords have a limited business, from information I found on the internet. I can see that both of their addresses are down as the address as 1 of the 4 houses they rent out and not their real home address. Is this something that they can do or is this a bit dodgy?

I'd be more worried about keeping your job if you have checked them without their permission using a confidential works system. They'd have every reason to make a formal complaint about you to your employer and the Data Protection Commissioner.

That aside, assuming you are meaning data in the public domain, then directors of limited companies are allowed to use a "service address" for public viewing in order to keep their personal home address confidential. If your system is simply checking Companies House records, this is what you're seeing. Doesn't mean anything - just that they prefer their "public" address to be different to their actual home address.

Why are you so interested in their personal life? You're just renting a place so not tied if they go belly up. Forget it.
  • It is just companies house information, that I can access via the internet myself in my own time, so no worries there. They have proved dodgy in other ways like not securing my deposit, no gas checks. It was really just a question, nothing more than serving my curiosity. Thank you for your answer.
