You asked how often we check our online banking - personally for me its every day. Keeps me in control I feel, and also I hate to see the balance go down so it makes me less willing to spend !!! :D

Well done on your 1st nsd!
As for chocolate I'm awful for needing a fix but in winter I have hot chocolates! Cheap way of getting my fix.

  • Hi amd welcome i check on line banking everyday . I have found you need to be all over whats coming in and out and when so no nasty surprises.xx
  • Hi, Hope you all had a great weekend! I think you are all right about checking online banking everyday. Well at the weekend I went to HSBC to get my IB Number and secure key thingy and did the same in Natwest. Now tomorrow I actually have to use the service. Small steps right....?

I normally make my own bread and on Friday i ran out so I had to buy my own lunch from work, then after that the bf came over and he wanted soup - so we got some of that. All in all I spent around £3.50 on Friday. Then at the weekend the boyfriend treated me by helping out with getting weekend food in.

Today (monday) I spent £1 on my bus fare and then 60p on a packet of pretzels. I was desperate!!!!

Have you thought about it from a different angle? Instead of punishing yourself and having excuses like "I was desperate", try the reward system. If you have say two NSD's you get a small chocolate bar? Or buy a multipack of your fave choc and everytime you go and have one, put what it would cost you from the shop in a pot ready for next week? I think if you keep feeling guilty about it you're not going to fight it :) well that's what I find anyway.

  • Good luck with your journey. Do try and complete a SOA, people here really know their stuff and will try and help.
Do you have anything you could sell on ebay? That's a real money spinner, especially at this time of year.

As Kerri-dfw says, why not have a stock of cookies and treats at work, it will save you a fortune, the pound shop is great for stuff like that.
  • Hi, today for lunch as I wasn't going to go in today (i was called in but was not very well) I had a packet of crisps and a chocolate bar - as i was planning on eating nothing- but I got too hungry :-( So i spent around £1.30

Today for the first time in years I checked my balance. I have cancelled spotify and love film as its a waste of money. I have booked train tickets for this month in advance. I have paid my council tax. I really feel that I can take control of my finances if I just check my balance. I have got into a right mess with it all. Yesterday I had nothing, went over my overdraft and i had nothing. So i have around £1700 to play with. This would be fine If I didn't have two lots of rent to pay (total - £1100), bills and everything else. Its costing me £1890 just to be alive this month - thats with food for £30 for the whole month. What do I do!?

What food is in your cupboards? Can you list your outgoings for us so we can see how we can help? :-)

  • Blog from Friday - Oh gosh – what a day! I overslept this morning and I had a crazy important meeting on so I had to get to work on time. I had no other option but to folk out £7 for a taxi. Then I left my lunch on my bed so I had to buy it. £0.35 for a banana, £1 for a pasty. Then I had another meeting – it ended up in the pub so I ended having to buy a small coke and a packet of crisps for the table (everyone does it) £1.20. Then was under strict instructions to get the bfs mum a box of chocolate so I found some Roses for £2 at WHSmith. PHEW. I have come to the conclusion that in order to spend as little money as possible I need to be as organized as possible. I sometimes think that I don’t want to buy a multipack of crisps cos I want to save money but by going to the vending machine everyday I am doubling the amount id spend on them anyways. So therefore I should just accept that I will eat crisps and that its OK to buy a multipack of everything I spend money on everyday e.g. cookies, crisps and fruit. On the train to bfs flat – ticket cost £58 – again – if I bought it earlier it could have been much cheaper. I have already bought the one for the next fortnight and that’s £30 return – a massive saving. Organisation is the key. I am also not scared of online banking anymore. I just have to commit to looking at it every day or two. Sorry for the long post – its just that its taking me ages to learn this stuff and actually stick to it. Need to think about Christmas soooooon….. aghrrrrrrrr Home made Jars of jam for everyone I think….
  • Just got in - will deffo write down all out goings for you tomorrow and have a rummage through cupboards...
