Optrex Actimist dry eye spray

I've just discovered this, and its much better than the Liquifilm I've been prescribed for the last few years. Shame Actimist is not available on prescription...

The big problem though is that as a spray its so wasteful! You have to hold it 10c - 20 cm from your closed eyes (depending on whether or not you're wearing make up) so about two thirds of it or more goes everywhere else except on your eyelids. I know you don't need much of it to go "in" but a tiny dropper would be a much more efficient way to administer it.

Any pharmacists on here know of a suitable, efficient alternative?

But then what you waste in the spray you save on not having to throw away after being opened for six weeks as you do other eye products. Im still using a spray which must be near on a year now. And I cant say I hold it 20 cms away either

I have used the actimist spray and I agree it is good, but it is very expensive so I asked at Boots and they recommended a product called Viscotears Liquid Gel. It cost around 6 quid I think and it is a clear gel that you pop on your eyeball. They did ask me if I wore contact lenses (which I don't). It works for me and it seems to last well. I did go to my doctors but they just recommended artificial tears which I did try but not with much success.

And if you dont use that tube up in 6 weeks you have to throw it away - so save nothing

Ive been paying £14.99 a bottle for it, from boots and super drug... i then noticed the other day that they sell it at morrisons for £9.99, makes it a bit cheaper

The reason I like the viscotears is because it works a lot faster than the actimist spray. I get teary eyes sporadically and when I do the viscotears works faster. I suppose it would be better if they made it in smaller,
cheaper tubes.

I'm using Actimist twice a day, two sprays x 2 eyes = 4 sprays a day. Bottle contains 100 sprays, so it'll last me less than a month. If I could save all the stuff that goes on the skin around my eyes, I'd probably get 3 months out of it!

Babyblooz, does Viscotears help the normal tear layer like Actimist?
