Can't get a joint account at NW...

Went into Nationwide yesterday to try to open a joint account. We both have individual accounts there and thought this would be no problem.

The application was declined saying that our combined credit score wasn't good enough.

I'm gutted because right now it's hard to keep track of our money, what's being paid where and when etc with two separate accounts.

Does this mean that it's likely we will be refused a joint account elsewhere?

I didn't think our credit score situation was that bad but obviously they are applying their own standards.

If one of you had a good credit rating they could open a new account in that person's name and then link the account to the other person. I know Barclays allows that if the person with the bad credit rating is already a customer.

Be careful getting a joint account if one of you has a bad credit rating and the other a good credit rating; the one with the bad credit rating will trash the others rating once you become financially linked.
Why not just get your other half to set up a standing order for X amount every month to be paid to your account and then all bills get paid from your account?
