    But why would anyone consider leaving a final salary scheme, unless it was closed down?

    If they are working they shouldn't in most cases. If they have left the scheme then a transfer value can be compared with other possible benefits in an alternative arrangement. Addtionally if an employer looks dodgy, the safety of the f/s scheme may be questionable.
