I've checked the forums and found old threads discussing the pros and cons of both systems and was wondering what the current thinking is.
1) if you use one of those systems which do you perfer
2) where/how do you source your pods?
Thanks

We recently bought a senseo as it was half price in argos and we had a £10 voucher so was a bit of a bargain (couldn't justify the extra cost for a tassimo). Haven't really researched pods much but found a small selection in Tesco - I would also appreciate people sharing where they get their pods from.Silence is golden...unless you have a toddler. In that case silence is very, very suspicious!0

The trouble with Senseo / Tassimo / Dolce Gusto / Nespresso machines is the cost of the pods.
Example 30p per pod. 2 cups a day. Looks cheap but adds up to £219 a year!.
Don't overlook espresso machines which can use much cheaper pods. Click here for a deal on such a machine. Contrary to the deal's expired status, the machine is still available for £35 at Argos, but check if in stock at your local branch(es).0 -

I totally agree - espresso machines are much better value for money and as they don't have any moving parts inside are far less likely to go wrong. Worth considering if you're a coffee lover.0 -
I have the senseo on top of a cupboard gathering dust. Thought it was marvellous at the time, but after a few months the taste of the coffee just lost it's appeal. Maybe it's just me though.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Used to have a Senseo then it started leaking when only a few months old, have now had a Tassimo for nearly two years with no problems which we much prefer, you have to search around on the net for deals on the pods though sometimes buying direct from Tassimo can be cheaper.0

Thanks for the maths lesson - I've known colleagues that have spent that every month on Starbucks etc (and even more will think nothing of spending this on wine/beer/bottled water).
The advise depends on how much of a coffee connoisseur you are and your preference for type of drink (black or milk based) - my personal recommendation for all round use is a Nespresso machine with Aeroccino for milk frothing - the pods remain fresh and have a number of varieties, it uses fresh milk in an easy to clean way and you can produce a mean hot chocolate as well as cold drinks.
Quality wise it wipes the floor with any of the mainstream (Dolce Gusto/Senseo/Tassimo) machines and usually benefits from a £40/£50 rebate on purchases pre-Xmas.
For non-capsule machines you really need to be drinking a good quantity of coffee and cleaning on a regular basis to get the same level of taste and freshness but you save money.0 -
Agreed that Nespresso machines score higher than other brands of pods-only drinks machines in Which? reviews.
But not as high as proper espresso machines, including this £35 bargain, which is the second-highest scoring machine in Which? tests, beaten only by a £200+ Gaggia0
