being made redundant Oct 2012. Stay until end or start new job?

I have a tricky decision to make. I work in the public sector and will be made redundant next October. Haven't been there that long, but will still get around £12k payment.
In the meantime, my old company have offered me a job back with them, but they want me to start asap. I'm not that excited about going back there and I'm not sure it's the right job - but it's a job and the money is quite good.
So I have to decide whether to accept the position and lose out on my 12k redundancy payment - or stay where I am for the moment in the hope of getting a better job next year.
No idea what to do. On the one hand, I would be quite happy to stay with my current job until it finishes - on the other hand, I have a mortgage to pay and there is a risk I won't be able to find something when I really need to.
Have 2 weeks to make a decision!

Stay.
If it was a case of "leave now with a definite job, or in 1 month with possibly no job to go to" then I'd say go, for the sake of 1 month. But ANYTHING could happen in 11 months' time.
I think you're thinking too far in advance for a job that might not be right and where you'd miss out on a £12k payment.
Stay.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0
