I think it's disgusting that Amazon have done this and seem to be able to get away with this. From the reviews, it looks like quite a few people have been duped. I like Pilgrim stuff though and some of the items are still a good price, so I will buy a couple of pieces! Thanks derms.

If it didn't have the Pilgrim label it would just look like cheap costume jewellery.
  • As silver is being bought by Hatton Garden metals today for 45p per gram, the original price of these items seems very inflated.

They would be so much nicer if they were made out of real silver rather than plate.

Puts you in mind of Gerald Ratner's infamous joke back in 1991 when he said that they:

"sold a pair of earrings for under a pound, which is cheaper than a prawn sandwich from Marks & Spencer, but probably wouldn't last as long".

How wonderful the power of a brand is if it enables you to sell cheap plated jewellery at high prices because people think they're getting a bargain.

Once Ratner burst the bubble with his remark, though, nobody wanted the stuff. I imagine Pilgrim will look after their name more carefully if it helps them sell the stuff. A local jeweller would sell you solid silver items for not a lot more.
  • I'm pretty tight but £6 is still a pretty good deal for a necklace. The RRPs are more like £40 than £120.
  • I have gone by the reviews, some of which are excellent and bought a few items for presents. Thanks for the tip,:T they look really nice pieces and for the money, if you are careful what you buy I dont think you can go wrong. By the way, I love Amazon, they are my favourite online retailer.
  • I've just looked at their Danish site and the RRPs quoted by Amazon appear to be very different to the prices in Denmark for current stock and Amazon's stuff is past season. This necklace:http://www.pilgrim.dk/SHOP/Pages/Products.aspx?Category=Necklaces&product=161146001_161146001 is similar (ish) to this one and only costs £27.99 to buy from Pilgrim. Maybe Amazon messed up with the exchange rate from DKK to GBP.

    It's only a game

I agree that the prices on Amazon are incorrect and stated that in my original post. However it is lovely stuff and really well made. It is a very well known brand and has had Helena Christenson and Liv Tyler as their models. I ordered some of the £6 necklaces for Xmas as they were selling for £35+ in local gift shops.

Ahhh......that really justifies the price for me.

And there was I thinking that this was just ordinary, cheapish, plated jewellery being sold at inflated prices merely because someone's managed to create a 'brand'.

Thanks for posting, though - there'll always be people to buy it. :)
