Hello, I am going to be doing a speech in a competition based on global warming. I'm wanting to the focus be at a very local level which people can identify with and do something about but I'm stumped. So any ideas?
Thanks

Some suggestions of better places to do your research than this board:
Contact your local Wildlife Trust. The Wildlife Trusts published a report called Living Landscapes in November which address the imapct of climate change on wildlife in the UK.
www.wildlifebritain.com English Nature
http://www.naturalengland.org.uk
The Woodland Trust
Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust
Royal Society for Protection of Birds
I used to do debating competitions and knowing how to go about research was an important part of that. You need to be able to identify what are the possible sources of the information you're looking for (in this case the answer is local and national wildlife and nature charities in another it might be newspaper archives or hansard) and start there not just type general keywords into a search engine. Look at those links, I would look particularly at the educational sections which are on some of those sites, you will probably also be able to find more useful sites through their link pages. The reason google is such a successful search engine is that it recognises the value of links, which imply a recomendation, beyond keywords, and further it reckognises that a link from a good site is of higher value than a link from a poor site but it judges this largely based on popularity. On the same principle if you can think of a reputable site which is relevant to a topic it is likely to be a good source of quality links. The key thing is that you have far more advanced critical faculties than any search engine and are thus better placed to assess what is a reputable and informative site.0 -
