Guinness Sturger Unit - Anyone Tried Them?

Not sure this is the right forum, but whilst picking up my usual pack of Guinness at Tesco the other night noticed they have launched 'Sturger' units which I understand supposedly give a more realistic 'pub' taste. All sounds very good and the unit looks kind of cool - it basically looks like a base that you plonk the glass on and press a button and away its goes.....Anyhow just wondering if this is all marketing gimmick or if it is actually the business. Anyone tried it out? Also with the starter kit it comes with the Guinness Sturger cans - are these really different to the normal cans?

Hi there. My OH has one of these and when I asked him your question he said the Sturger produces a pint definitely better than the normal guiness in a can.
Also, you MUST use the special sturger cans. He tried it with a normal can and it went everywhere - literally!!

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if the Sturger cans cost more than the usual cans?0 -
You can only get the cans in tesco extra (well thats only where i can find them!!) and 4 costs 4.99.
I think you do get a better pint, but you have to ensure they are chilled or it wont come out right either!0 -
IMO they are far better than the draught.
can must be completely chilled
pour into glass REALLY slow, aiming to get no head whatsoever, as these are spacial cans, it comes out just like flat coke.
Put one teaspoon of water on the base plate, stick the glass on, press button and watch the magic.
Settles from bottom up - just as from a pump, and tastes about the same. This is not an automated signature. I write this at the bottom of every message0
