European Debt Web - Who Owes What To Whom

Haven't had a chance to try and understand this but it looks pretty:

Can anyone explain that when you add up the UK debt it does indeed come to around 1.7 trillion but when you look at what individual countries owe us it adds up to just a bit less than the 1.7 trillion (saving the embarrassed face smiley for when I see the response).

French bank lend most money for sovereign debt, followed by Germany, but UK is relatively ahead of Germany when compared to GDP.
UK banks lend most money to French banks.
UK and American insurers have pretty much all the risk in case of a default. So it looks as if Britain will be most effected if Greece, Ireland, Italy or even France default.... So much for us staying out of the Euro...0 -

The flipside of that coin is that if Europe defaults, China has the most to lose.
Perhaps it's also worth remembering that Australia feeds China. Perhaps China is Australia's salope (link NSFW esp if you work in a French company!).
The US has just signed an agreement to open a military base in the NT in Northern Australia. Whilst the number of ground troops will be small, the number of aircraft is set to rise hugely.
