High Court Enforcement Bailiff, advice pleeese

Hi all, came in from work yesterday to a hand delivered letter from HCE Group (high court enforcement) saying they have arrived with the intention of removing goods and chattels and will call again within 24hours to seize goods to pay off an outstanding debt of £1547.73.
I have had no other correspondance whatsoever regarding this and was unaware that we owed money to this company so rang the bailiff straight away to try and sort this out. She was quite abrupt and not very helpful stating as we had moved address 6 months ago papers must have been sent to old address and it was our fault we hadnt picked them up.
Eventually she agreed to phone the company we owe and get a break down of figures and dates of where this debt has come from and I am waiting for her phonecall now.
I am not denying we may owe this company money as we do have a lot of debt and at the moment I am saving up to go bankrupt but what I cant understand is how they can enforce this when I have had no warning or time to sort this out.
I have posted before at the beginning of the year when we lost our house through all our debt and all your advice was brilliant and helped a great deal.
Is there some way I can get this postponed or delayed as surely I cant start paying money to them when I owe so much to other companies?
Please help!!!

If the high court enforcement officers are calling there must be judgement against you and hence there will have been detailed correspondence from your creditor and the court.

I presume you didn't have your post redirected?

Do you know which creditor it relates to?

You need to get a copy of the court judgement ASAP. Find out the CCJ number and court (from your credit file or registery trust online) and contact the court for a copy of the CCJ.

  • Hi, thank you for the quick reply. The bailiff told me that it is for commercial rent which was over 2 years ago and I never had any correspondance at my previous address regarding this, as far as I was aware there was no outstanding debt with this company.
I am frantilcally going through all my paperwork to see if I can shed any light on this.
I am not sure if I am correct but i think i read somewhere that if you have not received your initial court/ccj papers then you can apply to the court for a stay of execution to give me time to try and figure this out.
Can anyone tell me if this is correct?
