Advice Please - can my OH be sacked?

If she wants to leave in March then she should give her notice a week before she wants to leave. I wouldn't worry at all about loyalty to the company or leaving her boss, who she is scared of, in the lurch. Believe me, if she did something wrong the company wouldn't be worried about loyalty to her or hanging her out to dry if it saved them face.0

What's the norm in your wife's type of job?
I seriously would think about not giving all the power to her employer here - loyalty and liking the business owner goes so far, but in few cases would extend to such high notice periods unless it's legally required, IMHO.
She works in a small Company of only 6 employees in a niche area of travel. Her job title is Sales manger. She has had a great working relationship with her boss, to the extent that they regarded themselves as 'brother/sister'
She is the sort of person that won't leave at the end of the day until the days work is sorted, and is the first to get stuck in with manual labour when things like displays and pitches need putting up at venues/exhibitions etc.
I tend to agree with you regarding the amount of notice she is giving and I think she is doing so for honourable reasons, and trying to maintain loyalty to what was, and trying to keep the 'moral high ground'getmore4less wrote: »Why not address the issue, there must be something causing the change.
As I understand it the change in the boss and the working environment started about a year ago after the Boss seperated from his wife, started with a new girlfriend, (who is a 30 year old professional student) and has since gone through a messy divorce.
Since this whole personality has changed, from being very inclusive in how things get to done to almost autocratic.
Back in August they had an office meeting and she told him directly that his staff were un-happy and his reply was, 'If they are they know where the door is.'
When she challenged this he started screaming at her in front of the other staff and then ordered her to take the rest of the day off.
This year, since the Boss went from Jekell to Hyde 3 staff have since left, two of whom were old friends of the boss, who he has now alienated and is in the process of losing another (my OH). Additionally long term business partners have the noticed the detrimental change in him, which can't be good for business.
Not sure if the above helps, but does it affect any advice already given?Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body,

She has never been given or signed a formal contract of employment.
Did she originally receive an offer letter? Was anything given to her in writing early on in her employment which stated the name of the employer, the start date of employment, the salary (as it then was) and other terms including notice period?
If so, the notice period will be as in those written particulars.
The terms do not have to be in the form of a contract document that is signed by either or both parties to the employment contract.0 -
sorry if someone said to me they were going the notice clock would start ticking from that moment on and even if they wanted to leave 12 weeks later, if thei notice period didn't demand it then I wouldn't want them there a moment longer.2014 Target;

In both cases they gave a months notice, but on talking to them only because they thought that was the minimum allowed, as opposed to any contractual agreement.Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body,
