OK, finally got some groceries delivered after nearly a fortnight of tins, freezer, cupboards: the fridge was totally empty by the end, but the freezer still had quite a lot of stuff in, mostly veg and previously cooked meals.
Friday 18th: Jamie 30 minute thai green curry; ooh this was yummy but used every pan in the house and took at least 45 mins.
Saturday 19th: Scouse (this is from a BBC 'Rita's posh scouse' recipe; it looks amazing bubbling away but we might go for a cheaper scouse next time cos even serving 8 this is costing a fortune; half to freezer)
Sunday 20th: Ham hock, pearl barley and greens soup (Allegra McEvedy and you can google it; she uses kale but I am going with savoy cabbage because I prefer it).
Monday 21st: mushroom korma from freezer, sour chickpeas (Madhur Jaffrey), rice
Tuesday 22nd: Smoked Haddock with Bacon & Mustard sauce and spinach, baked potatoes (Kitchen Revolution)
Wednesday 23rd: twice-baked potatoes with goats cheese (realise I've got bakers twice in a row so might move something around, internet recipe), HM coleslaw
Thursday 24th: baked spinach enchiladas (they also have mince in), a family favourite.Make £2023 in 2023: (all decluttering), current total £2860 me, £330 for friends & family, £468 charity donations.0 -

Can you tell we had roast chicken this weekend; trying to make it stretch! We've been meal planning the last few weeks so getting used to it. Lunch is our biggest spend as if we forget its generally £3 each if we have to buy it. £6 a day, 5x a week, 4 weeks a month: £120 is a huge incentiviser to stop buying lunch!!!!First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!0 -
Joining in with this since I'm fed up of us deciding last minute what to eat and having to nip out to the shops for one thing, which inevitably ends up costing a tenner in useless stuff! This week's pretty basic since I'm trying to use up some freezer stuff, so should only cost me £10 or so doing a small shop tomorow.
Mon 21st - pasta, tomatoey sauce
Tues 22nd - Chickeny stew with mash
Wed 23rd - soup out of freezer for me, chicken curry ready meal out of freezer for OH since he'll be in late
Thurs 24th - Tuna pasta
Fri 25th - sausage egg and chips
My lunches during the week will mostly be soup, I have loads made and frozen.
I'm planning the week after's meals just now (insomnia!) and am shocked how short my ASDA shopping list is turning out to be as a result...think this is a good way to go. I do want to add a few extra storecupboard essentials onto the list (I'm trying to stock up a bit for winter) but nothing perishable, so it looks like a cheap shop.February Grocery Challenge - £100.87/£180February Don't Throw Food Away Challenge - £0.60/£1.500 -
Got directed to this thread by a friendly grocery challenge member.
I'm afraid this week is rather cheap/thrown together/inventive because the grocery budget has gone & we are winging it 'til the end of the week & payday/start of a new budget!
(bit of a pork theme going on)
Mon (kids on school dinners)- DH-beef pie, veg & baked potato. Me-vegetarian chili & baked potato (both left over meals from freezer)
Tues- (kids on school dinners)-sausage sandwiches
Wed- Pasta Carbonara
Thurs-Gammon, egg & wedges
Fri-chicken in rice
Sat-out at friends
Sun-Pan fried pork steaks with orange & sage with veg & roast potatoes.
Thankfully the kids have roast / veg packed dinners booked at school mon/Tues. Fruit is running low but have tinned pineapple & dried fruit if we do run out. Out of sandwich meat but can be inventive there, topped up cucumber / tomato! We won't starve but won't an exciting start to the week (culinary speaking)!
