My friend got a top up laser but the practice recommended waiting until she fell below driving standards and had the same prescription for a year before going ahead as its a lot of money and if the eyes were still changing it would need redone sooner.
  • What was the retreatment like?

She said it was almost identical to the first time round except she knew what to expect and got a different set of eye drops after.
  • Thanks im going to give it a miss for now i think. I dont want to risk getting side effects i dont have now.

Double checked its L -0.50 R -1.00. I may get some glasses for night time driving, like i say i dont need them for tv and general day to day use so my question is if i do get some just for driving and only wear them for that will my eyesight deterioate from the use of the glasses that i will need to wear them more frequently and for things that i dont need them for now? I dont wanna make them worse by wearing glasses and needing them more often. Thanks.

Wearing glasses will not have any effect on any further changes in your sight. This is a myth, unfortunately one that is widely believed.
  • I suppose it would be mind over matter? If I wear the glasses I will then know how crystal clear my vision could be, then I would need to decide whether I would be happy having my vision being less clear when I take them off after driving.

I went back to the opticians yesterday - they said if I am not struggling then with my prescription not to bother getting the glasses.

Although I would love crystal clear unaided sight, I just dont think I can go through the laser retreatment - I dont want to deal with the pain/discomfort and I definitely dont want to end up worse off (side effects) plus this would then leave my right eye (hopefully) fully corrected and then my left eye still at -0.50 and if that then worsens would have to go through it all again.

For the time being I think I will leave it all, see how I get on - the optician is happy to see me again in 24 months - so unless I experience any deterioation I will leave it.

Thanks to everyone for their help, advice and thoughts.

By your own admssion, you struggle to see clearly at night, so the least I would do is get some basic distance specs for driving.
