Debt Collectors pursuing innocent people

I came to this website for help with a debt agency that was bothering me because I had the same name as somebody in debt. They went away eventually but now they're back with another bogus claim! This time they've found my phone number and have started harassing me by phone too. They demand that I give them personal details to prove my innocence or they won't stop calling. It's easy for me to ignore their threats but I worry that elderly and vulnerable people will be scared into effectively helping them earn their living. What other business would be allowed to get away with this sort of bully-boy behaviour?
I found it difficult to find the right people to complain to but I got quite a lot of help and advice from people on this forum, so thanks.
I have written to the OFT who tell me they are currently receiving a large amount of complaints about debt collecting agencies so I hope they're winding up to hit these arrogant bullies where it hurts. I doubt it though because they had a similar crack-down in 2009 and nothing seems to have changed
So I have set up a government e-petition asking the Ministry of Justice to come to the aid of its citizens. It's been accepted but it needs your signatures to get it talked about in parliament. So please stand up for your rights and sign it. Please pass the message on to your friends too. With your help we can fight back against these rogues!
As a newbie:( I'm not allowed to post links but perhaps someone else will, it's petition number 22973
Thank you! :T
